DUCATI team KAGAYAMA
初戦で2位表彰台を獲得!
DUCATI team KAGAYAMAの初戦となる MFJ全日本ロードレース選手権第1戦「NGKスパークプラグ鈴鹿2×4レース」が鈴鹿サーキットにて開幕した。

全日本の開幕戦として通常より1ヶ月ほど早い開催となったうえに寒気の影響を受け、決勝日の気温は最高9度と、ウイークを通じて冷え込み、低温の影響で転倒の多いレースウィークとなったが、DUCATI team KAGAYAMAは、開幕までの準備期間が短いなか、チーム総力により開幕戦の初陣を表彰台で飾った。
DUCATI Team KAGAYAMA & Panigale V4R made the sensational debut at Suzuka, finished 2nd position.
It was the sensational debut of Ducati Panigale V4R joined to the opening round of All Japan Championship JSB 1000 class “NGK Spark Plug Suzuka 2 x 4 race” at Suzuka circuit run by DUCATI Team KAGAYAMA, the first ever race for Ducati factory bike in Japan.

As it was a month earlier to start the season this year, there was the concern of the weather condition, and the temperature never raised as expected. This had suffered all the entrants through the weekend and sacrificed lots of riders to fall during the weekend. Despite DUCATI Team KAGAYAMA had only limited time for the preparation of the first round, team and rider had worked calm without making any major failures or mistakes through the weekend, and the team work had allowed the rider Ryo Mizuno who also had never experienced riding Ducati Panigale V4R till the first shake down test a week before, to battle in the top group at the race and finished at surprising 2nd place.
DUCATI team KAGAYAMAは、開幕1週間前に行われた2日間のテストでパニガーレV4Rファクトリーをシェイクダウン。レースウィークは木曜日から走行、決勝にむけてのセットアップが進められ、金曜に行われたARTスポーツ走行では水野涼が全体の2番手タイムの2,06.072を記録した。

土曜日は30分間の計時予選が予定されていたが、朝から強風が吹き、セッション直前には雪がちらつくという悪天候と、低温による路面の影響を鑑みてコースイン直前に予選がキャンセルされた。決勝グリッドは前日のART走行の総合結果から判断され、水野は前日のタイムから2番手グリッドを獲得、フロントローからのスタート。
After had shaken down of Ducati Panigale V4R a week before, the team was only allowed 2 days free practice sessions on Thursday and Friday to set up the bikes properly for the qualifying and the race, but Mizuno already had shown his performance and scored 2nd position overall with 2,06.072 at the very last session on Friday.

Qualify practice was schedule 30 min. on Saturday morning, but it was informed to be cancelled just before the session considering the safety due to the track condition with the snow flakes falling. By this decision of the cancellation of the qualify practice, the official grid position was decided with the 2 official practice sessions on Friday afternoon, and this had made Ryo to start from the 2nd position on the front row for the debut of Ducati Panigale V4R and his first ever race with Ducati.
決勝は晴れ。14ラップのレースは水野が抜群のスタートを決めホールショット。一旦は他車を前に出すもホームストレートで見事なオーバーテイクを見せトップに立ち2番手以降を引き離すかたちで4ラップ目に入ったところ、後方での転倒によりレースは中断。全車が3ラップを消化していなかったためレース自体が無効になり、規定により同周回数の14ラップでやり直しとなる。

再開された決勝レース、水野はオープニングラップのバックストレートでドゥカティの性能をフルに発揮、前の3台をパスしてトップで最終コーナーを立ち上がってきた。背後にヤマハファクトリーの中須賀を従えた状態での2台のハイペースなトップ争いは、3番手以降と距離を空け、予選アタックより速い2分5秒台を記録。7ラップ目に一旦トップを譲ってしまうが、水野は中須賀の背後で仕掛けるタイミングを探っていた。レースは残り5ラップ、前に出るチャンスをうかがっていた矢先、転倒車によりセーフティーカーが介入してしまう。レースは再開されず11ラップで赤旗が提示されそのままの順位で終了し、2位表彰台を獲得となった。
On Sunday the track condition recovered a bit as it was sunny even the temperature has been staying cold. Mizuno had a very good start and run into the first corner leading all the riders behind of him. He was overtaken by the other rider after a few corners, but came back to the top of the group and slowly started to leave the group behind. Although due to the crash of the other rider, the race was red flagged before all the riders complete 3 laps, the race is considered invalid and restarted complete race.

At the opening lap of the 2nd start, Mizuno was once pushed back to the 4th position, but he overtook 3 riders at one time on the back straight demonstrating Panigale V4R performance, and exited the last corner first. Although 12 times of JSB 1000 champion of All Japan Championship Nakasuga set just behind Mizuno, and both riders had run with high 2,05s which were faster than the qualifying lap time, and had shown the exiting battle. Mizuno had allowed Nakasuga to overtake him at the lap 7, but he set him just behind Nakasuga now, keeping the distance in between him and aiming to overtake him again. There was another crash at 5 laps remaining, and the safety car entered to the track, but the security was not cleared and the race stopped by red flag unfortunately. With this red flag, the race was considered to be completed and this had Mizuno finished his first race at the 2nd position.

昨年から企画がスタートし、開幕を迎えることができました。マネージャー、チームスタッフのみんなに感謝、そしてドゥカティコルセの多大な協力と、応援者の皆様に感謝いたします。

開幕前テストでは走行ができるかどうかも微妙なパーツの段取りでしたが、メカニックたちは完璧な仕事をこなしてくれ、エンジンがかかって全てが機能したパニガーレという車両のベースの高さを感じていました。レースウィークはトラブルもあり、水野にストレスを与えてしまったかもしれませんが、乗り切って表彰台を獲得できました。水野の頑張りでトップを快走し、後半にもう一度巻き返そうと思ったときの赤旗中断なので、2位でも100%嬉しいことですが、赤旗終了直後、悔しさがまさってしまった。久しぶりにレースで悔しい思いをした。

初戦を表彰台で終われたこと、勝てそうな可能性をお見せできたことは、チーム、スタッフの頑張りとして100点だったと思います。次戦のもてぎはヤマハファクトリーに勝てるようにDUCATI team KAGAYAMA一丸となって進めていきたいと思います。応援、サポートありがとうございました。
First of all of anything, I would like to thank to Ducati factory and Ducati Corse staff for their huge support on our project, and allowed us to be at Suzuka to start the season. This project had started late last year, and without their support, it was impossible to be on the grid today. I also would like to thank to our mechanics for their great job to bring the bike performed on the track and of course thanks to our rider Ryo to adapt the bike in the limited time to perform the best at the race.

We had so many concerns before starting the engine at the shake down test a week ago, but when it run, we immediately learned its high performance. As we had some technical issues during this weekend, it may stressed the rider and the crew, but we overcame all of those and had won the podium for our first race of this project and this is surely our big proud. It was a bit regretting that the race was finished by red flag and this prevented Ryo to have a opportunity to overtake again, but we are so happy with our result.

Even we finished 2nd position, I would say that our team work was 100% for this race. We will definitely keep improving and will have better results for upcoming races. 先週のテストでシェイクダウンしデータ取りに専念し、今週からレースに向けてのセットアップを進めていきました。初日の木曜は自分のホンダの考え方、チームのスズキ流の作り方、ドゥカティを知っているエンジニアの間で考え方が違い、合わせるのが難しかったのですが金曜の午後に良いセットアップが見つかりました。

もちろん開幕戦から優勝は狙っていましたが、レース展開的にトップを引っ張っていくとは思っていなかったのでここまでバイクを作れたことに驚きでした。優勝が見えていただけに悔しい気持ちはあるのですが、100パーセント詰めきれていないなか、開幕戦でこれだけできれば次戦はもっといけるのではないかと思うので楽しみです。
A week before at the shake down test here at Suzuka, we were just at the beginning of this new project, and all we did was just to run the bike and get as much data as possible. So it means all the setting was managed only in 2 days on Thursday and Friday when we arrived to Suzuka again this time, and we shared the idea each other for the first time considering my riding style of Honda, difference of each manufacture’s philosophy of the bike, the way how the team used to work considering the character of Suzuki there. This proves that it was not an easy weekend for me, although thanks to the hard work of the team, we were able to find the good set up on Friday afternoon, and this had made me ready to start the race on Sunday.

To be honest I didn’t expect to lead the race at the opening round even my target is to win at all the races it was so impressed how our mechanics managed well to set up the bike perfect for the race. As we had a good opportunity to win it, it was a bit disappointing that the race was finished by red flag, but I only can be positive as we still have a lot to improve and I’m confident that we can perform much better at the upcoming rounds.
